In 2004, my husband James and I came from Paris to visit a couple of close friends who lived in Geneva. We knew of the town of Evian because of its famous bottled water and the internationally known Royal Evian Masters golf course. Since Evian was just 45 minutes from Geneva and because we were avid golfers, we decided to try the course.
It was but A few hours after our arrival that we fell completely in love with the town, the golf course, the view of Lake Geneva below us and the Swiss and French Alps above. I couldnʼt stop telling my husband; “This is paradise, I am in heaven”. That picture will remain engraved in our minds for as long as we live.
Our trips to Evian became so frequent that we finally decided that we had to move to Evian. We were so enchanted with the place that we could not stay away from it. We began searching for a house with the same view that we saw from the golf course.
It took some time, but finally some local friends found a little house with a good size lot right on the green of hole number seven. They were golfing that day and saw the real estate agent about to post the “for sale” sign. They ran to him and asked him to wait until the next day so we could drive from Paris to see it. Our friends took a couple of pictures of the house and the view of the lake from the house with their iPhone and emailed them to us.
We got up very early the next morning and drove directly to the house to meet the agent, spent half an hour in the house, signed the sales contract and turned around to drive another six hours to return to Paris. My husband and I kept looking at each other throughout saying to one another; “Did we just buy a house in Evian?” It was like a dream come true!
SO, it was five years after our first visit to this lovely town that we found our dream place. We bought the little house in 2009 and with the help of a talented architect moved to our new home in 2011. We never tire of the magical view of Lake Geneva and the multiple colors of each sunset over it.
We look forward to welcoming you to our private kitchen for your next cooking class.
